Creating a Podcast Studio

A good recording studio is a must for any podcaster. If you have a dedicated podcast studio, you’ll be able to produce the highest-quality sound possible and avoid unwanted background noise such as dogs barking or ambulance sirens that can distract listeners from what you’re saying.

What is a podcast studio?

Start by deciding what type of podcast you want to record: traditional single host, interview or news reporting formats can all require slightly different equipment. Then, determine your budget and how much time you have to invest in your own studio.

You’ll also need to decide on your preferred DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Affordable programs like Audacity or REAPER are great options for beginners, but if you want more advanced features and professional-level quality, it might be worth considering Ableton, Logic Pro, Cubase or Pro Tools.

Get Your Mic Setup Right

It’s best to invest in a microphone that’s designed for podcasting and is compatible with your DAW, or at least a USB-microphone. XLR models will need an audio interface to connect them, whereas USB mics are compatible with most software and can be used on mobile devices.

Use a Microphone Stand

If you’re working in a limited space or don’t have a permanent room for your podcasting studio, try setting up an audio booth around yourself and your microphone. You can pop a mic into a cat bed, surround it with pillows or drape a duvet over a clothes rack to create an immersive recording environment.
