Been matched for a while?
If you and your Little have been matched for some time, we’ve compiled some awesome tips on how you can maintain a good relationship and help your Little succeed in life!
- Compliment your “Little” as often as possible.
- Ask your “Little” to suggest outings that interest them.
- Put an emphasis on the importance of the time you spend together as opposed to the amount of money which is spent.
- If you’ve been matched for quite a while, it is still important to find “new” outings fairly often in order to keep your “Little” interested in the match.
- Try to spend more time listening to your “Little” than time talking to him/her.
- It is important for you to keep in touch with your Little between outings. Give them a call or send them an email to let them know you care and to keep them interested in the match.
- Be an advocate. Frequently remind your Little that you are always there for him/her for support and for friendship.
- Try to vary your outings between fun activities and educational ones.
- Don’t forget your “Little’s” Birthday or your match anniversary.
- Send your “Little” a card when he/she is sick or if an outing had to be cancelled or postponed for some reason.
- Don’t loan money to your Little or his/her family members, and don’t borrow money from them.
- Remember why you signed up to be a “Big.” Do everything you can to make it an enjoyable experience for both you and your “Little.”
- Don’t break appointments unless it is absolutely necessary. And if it is necessary, let your Little know about it immediately.
- Call your match support specialist with any questions or concerns you have as well as to report your good news and achievements or those of your Little.
