Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Mentoring for the Future.
Our Community-Based Mentoring program is the signature program for Big Brothers Big Sisters of CYDC. The activities are decided on by the Big and the Little. It is not necessary to plan elaborate outings every time you see each other. The time you spend together building a friendship is what the experience is all about and how you can positively impact a Little in the program.
Getting together is a great time for both Bigs and Littles.
It doesn't require a special occasion or expensive activities; just a few times every month sharing simple things you already enjoy with a young person:
- Shooting hoops
- Playing a board game
- Sharing a pizza
- Taking a walk in the park
- Just hanging out and talking
The schedule can be flexible to meet the needs of mentors and young people in different kinds of situations. Some Bigs meet with their Littles on the weekend or in the evening. Others get together with their Littles after school. It's easy to find a way to fit in a few hours a month, especially when you learn what a difference mentoring makes.
Our Mission. Our Vision.
BBBS Mission: provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
BBBS Vision: that all children achieve success in life.
BBBS School-Based Program
It may sound obvious, but sometimes the best place to help a child realize their potential is at school. Kids enjoy having their Bigs meet with them there, whether it's in the classroom or on the playground. And parents know what a positive impact it makes.
Some of the biggest supporters of our School-Based Mentoring program are actually teachers. They see students come back from their time with their Big filled with confidence, smiling big, ready to learn and eager to succeed.
Learning about life
Although it takes place at schools right here in the tri-country area, our School-Based Mentoring program isn't limited to the classroom. Of course, some Littles do talk with their Bigs about class, or do homework, or read together, but it's perfectly fine to shoot hoops in the gym or play on the playground. At the end of the day, it's really all about starting a friendship, providing guidance and inspiring them to reach their potential.
